“HeliXwing” Sanderson MacLeod’s Brush Innovation Center Conference Table
Location : Palmer, MA
Description : 12 ft. glass table with lights and wire brush machines and equipment
Materials : Steel, aluminum, brass, repurposed factory parts, and electronics
Timeline : 3 months
Challenge: How to inspire staff and clients when they collaborate on innovative designs and engineering projects.
Solution: Create a dynamic conference room center piece that pays tribute to the company’s past, present, and future – where talented people can gather and work together.
Sanderson MacLeod runs a classic manufacturing facility that has been an industry leader for the last 60 years. CEO and president Mark Borsari wanted an impactful center piece for the company’s newly renovated Brush Innovation Center, which is a unique work environment that offers proprietary sampling systems and prototyping equipment focused on reducing client brush development time.
Borsari and Rosenbaum assembled a team comprised of local artists, Pathfinder Vocational students and instructors, and Sanderson and MacLeod’s own toolmakers.
Led by Rosenbaum, the team took a collaborative approach to sourcing materials and constructing the table into a functional art piece. The table is nearly 100% fashioned from long-retired brush making tools, equipment, and industrial machinery found in the company’s warehouse and local antique markets.
“The table has come to represent not only our love of innovation, but also how we seek out inspiration from the most obscure places,” said Borsari. “In fact, at a recent meeting with one of our clients, we spent the first 30 minutes talking about the innovative nature of the table itself – it leaves a noticeable impression!”
